IMAP advises S4 Energy on attracting Castleton Commodities International CCI as growth partner and majority shareholder

IMAP is pleased to announce that S4 Energy BV (“S4 Energy”), a developer, owner and operator of large-scale energy storage systems, has received financing from Castleton Commodities International LLC (“CCI”).
S4 Energy, founded in 2010, developed and produces proprietary KINEXT storage technology for use in renewable energy generation. The proprietary system is based on flywheel technology. The company manages and co-owns several hybrid energy storage systems that contain KINEXT technology combined with its own developed management software and grid-scale lithium-ion batteries, which have properties superior to other energy storage solutions. S4 Energy has an operating portfolio of 25MW in the Netherlands.
CCI is a global energy commodity merchant with integrated businesses focusing on marketing, merchandising, trading commodities, and the ownership, operation, and development of commodities-related infrastructure assets across Europe and North America.
S4 Energy initiated the process to attract a growth partner because it wanted to scale up and leverage its unique energy storage proposition. With CCI as majority shareholder and strategic partner, the company can accelerate the deployment of grid connected energy storage projects to enable decarbonization, while maintaining the stability and reliability of the power grid in Europe. S4 Energy’s target is to build more than 300MW of energy storage assets over the next three years and become a pan-European platform of scale.
The IMAP Netherlands team, comprising Guillaume Petit and Daan Zandbergen, advised the shareholders and management of S4 Energy on attracting CCI as majority shareholder in the company.
